The mind is one of the most powerful things that was created. Science tells us, that we have not even yet tapped into a fraction of  what the mind can do and its abilities. The mind is the battle ground for any major decision, and warfare is won or lost in the mind. (1 Peter 1:13) The mind is a creator. The mind is a coordinator. The mind is an innovator. The mind is also a store house. The mind is a decider. The mind is a sensor. The mind is a thinker.

The enemy wants to get your mind, because it is powerful. Once your mind has been taken over, you have been taken over. I was walking down the mall last week and I saw a woman walking. Her hair was dishevelled, she was salivating, and she was scantily dressed and had, sadly, most of her clothes in her hands. Clearly, something was wrong. I thought to myself that she has lost her mind. When you lose your mind you have lost yourself.  This is the power of the mind.

Scripture tells the Christian, that we have to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. The question then is, how can this be achieved? The answer is all in the Mind. The mind has to be renewed in order for transformation to happen. Let us read this scripture:

Romans 12:1-2 KJV

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Why is it that some Christians struggle in their Christian living, and they find it hard to overcome some sins and habits? This is because they have not renewed their minds with the Word of God.

When you are born again and accept Christ as your saviour, you become new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Your spirit is reborn. This places your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  However, if you do not renew your mind, you will not be able to live a spiritual and victorious life, full of God’s provision and abundance.

So Paul, in Romans 12, tells us three things that need to happen for us to live spiritual lives.

  1. DO NOT CONFORM. The world is constantly trying to get us to conform to its ways. Conform to fear, lust, greed, poverty and hate. Refuse to blend in, or give in to the demands of the world. Refuse to be poor and depressed! We have riches in Christ Jesus. (Phill 4:19) We are in this world but not of this world. (John 17:16)

  1. BE TRANSFORMED. When I was young, I watched a popular movie called The Transformers. What made it fascinating, was how the robots changed from human shapes to vehicle shapes. Change is fascinating and, in these movies, it would mostly help the robots to avert some sort of disaster or accident. The word Transform in the Biblical Greek, comes from the word “Metamorphoo”. This means change of form, for example, the change we see from a caterpillar to a butterfly. This change is a process. I believe that spiritual transformation, is a process that starts when we accept Jesus as our Saviour. However, it is done by renewing our mind. Change will always help you avert trouble.

  1. RENEW YOUR MIND. This is the key. Renew means to make new and to replace your thinking with God’s thinking. His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). I used to be in a religious community, that was bound and based in religious rules and regulations, that were performance based. You had to do this and that, to be able to show that you are “righteous” in the standards of this community. When I started to really go deep into the Word, study it and my mind got renewed; a mental renewal took place, as I grew in the knowledge of God. I realised from that Word that my righteousness is not about my performance, it is about my position in Christ. Christ gave me His righteousness, and all I need to do is to receive it. The point is this, renewal started by reading the Bible!  If you want to be transformed, this will happen by reading and study of the Word daily.  Now, I am helping others live victoriously, this is the power of a renewed mind.

Once your mind is renewed, you can change your life, and your life can change other lives around you!  Once you change your mind, you can change your job, your house and your income! The power of a renewed mind, allows you to move into places and territories you have not been before. It allows you to walk in the supernatural, like you have never done before. The Bible says, as the Word enters our life, it brings light! Revelation is illumination!
